Drafty doors and windows cause your heating and air conditioner to run longer in order to keep a constant temperature in your home. Everyone should have a caulking gun to seal up those openings and minimize the escape of hot or cold air in your home, depending upon the season. Typically, space heating can account for approximately 31 percent of your utility bills (2007 Buildings Energy Data). Try a new weather strip around your door and check the sweep under the door. Make sure they are in tact and appropriately placed to be effective. With warmer days of summer fast approaching, your electric bills can be daunting.
